The traditional summer event series at the Chain Bridge from 3 July till 15 August has been relocated to a new scene on the Pest embankment, thus earning a new name: Summer at the Chain Bridge.
For seven weekends, visitors can enjoy classical music, world music and a series of events for children, and listen to numerous concerts at night. Each weekend is organised around a main theme, and the first weekend of the event series focuses around the theatre. On the 3rd and 4th of July, performances include popular operettas, musicals, ditties, chansons and theatre songs, as well as improvisational plays and stand-up comedy on open-air stages. The morning is for the children: there are performances for children every Saturday and Sunday from 11 AM.
On the second weekend, the lovers of popular music, classical music, and then of jazz, world music, pop and folk music can find a rich cultural variety.
Though the location is different, the works of craftsmen and folk artists can be found this year as well, as well as the all-day performances of showmen. Temporary food stands provide refreshment for those becoming exhausted in the summer heat. There will be gastronomic delicacies, such as kürtőskalács sweet pastries, and traditional kenyérlángos, and of course all kinds of refreshing drinks.
On the seven weekends of the festival, visitors can look at a photo exhibition on the cultural life of Budapest, on the Northern side of the Chain Bridge. Those who walk by can vote on the photo they like the most, by marking the number of the picture on the voting paper in the festival’s information kiosk. Three lucky winners from the voting audience will receive theatre tickets, two for each, for a performance by the Thália Theatre.
