This is a popular meeting place for locals and visitors alike. It is the city’s quintessential café locale. The most original cafés are Menza (a retro café in the style of the 1970s), Vian (named after the French writer) and Karma, an Indian-style café. At any time of the day this square is full of people eating or getting ready to have a party. Just sit at a terrace, order a fresh orange juice and relax. (Between Andrássy út and Király utca.)

Let’s go to the Római part! In the 1930s about two dozen boat houses were built on the city’s northern stretch of the Danube, and it became a cult pastime to rent keelboats and spend a weekend there. The ‘Roman Embankment’ is great without boating as well: you can take a bike tour or taste Hungarian fish soup. And don’t miss out on sampling lángos: Hungarian fried bread with garlic, cream and cheese. Or you can just stroll along. You can come back to the city centre by a regularly-scheduled boat service.
